The Gifts of the Holy Spirit and the baptism in the Holy Spirit

Part 1

 

I. Is the baptism in the Holy Spirit important?

            A. Not to be saved   (Rom. 8:9  Acts 16:31)

                        1. When you are born again the Spirit of God comes in you.

                        2. When you are baptized in the holy Spirit, you are filled to overflowing; The Spirit of God then rests upon you  (Luke 24:29)

            B. But to receive power to be a witness that Jesus is Alive today.

                        1. Acts 1:8

                        2. Acts 2:4,41,47  Peter witnessed to multitudes and thousands were saved.

                        3. Acts 4:4,31  lame man healed and thousands more saved.

 

II.  Are the Gifts of the Holy Spirit Important?

            A. Gifts are for the common good   (1 Cor. 12:7)

            B. Prayer language is not a gift of the Spirit  (1 Cor. 14:2,4) but given to edify (build up, charge, strengthen) the one who does it. It is also speaking directly to God.

            C. One who prophesies; edifies, exhorts and comforts  the Church (1 Cor. 14:3)

            D. The gift of Tongues + Interpretation of tongues = the gift of prophecy which will exhort, edify and comfort the Church.  (1 Cor. 14:5)

 

III. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are not a substitute for:

            A. Holiness and obedience  (Matt. 7:21-27)

            B. Love (1 Cor. 13:1-3)    …without Love we are Nothing.

            C. Humility (1 Sam. 15:17)

            D. Character and fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5)

 

IV. The baptism in the Holy Spirit is not just a one-time event.

            A. Acts 2:4  they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues and walked in power.

            B. Acts 4:31  the place where they had prayed was shaken and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost AGAIN.

            C. 2 Tim 1:6  stir up the gift (fan into flame once more, get ignited with the fire of the Holy Spirit)

 

V. How does a Christian move in the gifts of the Holy Spirit?

            A. Earnestly desire the best gifts with the best motive. (1 Cor. 12:31  1 Corin 13:1  1 Corin 14:1)

            B. The desire of the righteous shall be granted (Prov. 10:24)

            C. Desire to edify the Church and the anointing and gifts will flow in your ministry.(1 Cor. 14:12,13)    pray to interpret your tongues.

            D. by Faith  (Rom. 12:6  Gal. 3:2-5)

            E. bottom line: desire, prayer, motive, love and faith will cause gifts to move in your life.
