Spirit of Prayer

Part 1

Isa. 62:6 Matt. 26:40-41 Mark 14:38

 

I. Why Pray - Jesus calls us to prayer

       A. We can understand the importance of prayer by looking at Jesus. (Matt. 26:4)

       B. Jesus knew that prayer was the only answer.

       C. Prayer was His life; He is our example.

                  1. He prayed among the hypocrites.

                  2. He prayed in crowds, He prayed on the hillside cluttered with people.

                  3. He prayed in the crowded upper room
 

                  4. He prayed alone

                  5. Jesus went from one place of prayer to another place of prayer and in between did miracles.

                  6. Jesus died on the cross and is now at the right hand of the Father making intercession for us. (Heb. 7:25)

       D. Jesus was born to be a blessing to humanity, so He gave His Life away.

                   1. We are born again in His Image and Likeness.

                   2. Jesus gave His Life away with the shedding of His .

                  3. We give our lives away through Prayer (1 John 4:17 1 Cor. 6:19-20)

                 4. We give our lives away by serving others.

                 5. We can serve All through Prayer and Intercession.

II. We pray - because Prayer Works (Matt. 26:40)

        A. “could you not pray for one hour?”

                     1. The spirit is willing...the flesh is weak...
 
                     2. Tithe your day, give God the first fruits of your day. (24 hours in a day)

                    3. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness is a Command .

                   4. John 13:34, Eph. 6:18 and Phill. 4:6 and 1 Tim 2:1-2 is God’s plan and Command for your prayer life.

     B. E.M. Bounds quotes:

                3. “Little praying is a make believe, it is a salve, just to think we have done our duty”

III. Excuses not to pray.

      A. I’m too busy.

      B. I have to get up early anyway (24 hours)

      C. I don’t have enough time.

               1. We are called upon by God to be prayer warriors (Intercessors)

               2. We are to have a spirit of Prayer birthed within us.

              3. We should not let ANYONE rob us of our prayer times.

    D. We must MAKE time to pray.

            1. We have to fit our schedule around our prayer and Fellowship time with God.

            2. God LONGS to spend time with us in prayer and fellowship.

            3. God is pulling on our hearts to more time with Him in Prayer and fellowship.

    E. Martin Luther quotes “it’s only when the whole heart is gripped with a passion of prayer; the life giving earnest fire descending for none but the earnest man who gets the access to the ear of God”

    F. We must pray prayers that are earnest and heartfelt.
